The Government of Hong Kong (British Territory) began issuing banknotes in 1935 and ceased regular issues in 1995. In 1994 The Bank of China (Hong Kong) began issuing banknotes and in 2002 the Government of Hong Kong (Special Adm. Region of China) also began issuing banknotes for use in Hong Kong.

HONG KONG OCCUPATION

The Occupation of Hong Kong and the Life of a Veteran by Michael Souza.

This is an interesting story of the life of Henry Anthony Souza (left) and the Hong Kong currency used during the period of the Imperial Japanese occupation of Hong Kong (香港日據時期). Henry was imprisoned during the Japanese occupation and this story is told by his proud son Michael. Michael also expands on his father's athletic career after the war, which included several Olympic games participations.

Also pictured in this article, in addition to all of the banknotes used in Hong Kong during the occupation, is the rare unissued 3rd Series - 2 Lin and 5 Mo (Specimen).MS
