EAST CARIBBEAN BANK - SECURITY FEATURES OF NEW NOTES ISSUED

Posted March, 2001

WATERMARK: There is a new watermark on the upgraded notes. It appears on the front left and can be seen from both sides of the note. The watermark is a portrait of the Queen and the image can be clearly seen when the note is held up to the light. There is also a watermark which reads "ECCB".

SECURITY THREAD: A new security thread runs through the note from top to bottom to the left of the portrait of the Queen. The thread appears on the surface of the paper at intervals. When the note is held up to the light the text in the thread reads "ECCB".

ANTI-SCANNER FEATURE: This is aimed at confusing scanners which might be used to counterfeit the notes. Over the watermark area on the left of the note are some very fine lines of print whcih on a genuine note look like a flat tint. If someone tries to reproduce the note with a scanner a visible pattern appears on the scanned note.

SEE-THROUGH FEATURE: The angel fish on the bottom left hand corner at the front of the note appear on the back in perfect, alignment when the note is held up to the light.

ENGRAVED PORTRAIT: The portrait of the Queen has a unique raised feel known as intaglio. This feature can also be found on the top and bottom borders, the turtle, and the denomination numerals.

MICROLETTERING: From the centre of the top of the note, to the bottom, is micro-lettering which at a grance looks like a line. Placed under a magnifying glass the line is in fact text reading "ECCB".

BARCODES: These are used to machine-sort the notes from different member territories, and appear in different configurations for notes from each of the islands.

SERIAL NUMBERS: Each note has a unique serial number which appears horizontally and vertically on the front of the note. No two serial numbers are ever the same.

UTLRAVIOLET FEATURES: When the note is placed under an ultra violet light a block with the denomination shows up, as well as the serial numbers.

SECURITY FOIL: Security foils have been added to the top right hand corner of the notes. There is a different foil shape on each note, a butterfly on the twenty and a shark on the five.

IRIDESCENT INK: In the centre of the back of the note there is an area printed with special iridescent ink which has a gold sheen. When the note is moved around in the light the fish appears and disappears.

SILVER METALLIC FLUORESCENT INK: There is a star in the middle of the back of each note printed in silver ink. The print shows up as green when the note is put under ultra-violet light.
