Dear Bruce,

Some time ago I mailed you a memo by the ECCB HQ in Basseterre, St. Kitts regarding release of a new $100 note on February 19, 1998.  Note is ND.  Antigua is the first designated island for distribution to commercial banks. All other 7 islands will be gradually phased in.  While held in reserve at ECC  HQ, it is uncertain whether any will ever be released for Montserrat, suffix M.  Depending of new, major eruptions of it's volcano, the remaining 2,000 peoples (out of 11,000) may be evacuated.

No other denominations will be issued in the foreseeable future.  You may want to assign this '98 $100 note as P36a/h.

Per encircled numbers on illustrations the following differences between P35 and the new note are discernable:

1)  Fish previously in gray is now in salmon colour.

2)  Fragmented laminated security strip [w/ microprint ECCB] added.

3)  Major portion of bird's body and r/s wing previously in gray, now in light brown.

4)  Gold-laminated tropical flower added.

5)  Previous security strip on P35 is eliminated on '98 note.

6)  Previous 1/s frame on P35 eliminated on '98 note.

7)  Swarm of fish outlined in green on P-35.  Now substituted w/ solid silver-laminated swarm of fish.

8)  P35 shows Thomas De La Rue and Company Limited.  Now abbreviated as De La Rue.

9)  Bird in brown on P35.  Now in dark-green

10) Swarm of fish on P35:  All 3 fish in light-olive green.  The biggest [on 1/r] w/ additional light yellow.  Now all 3 fish in dark-olive green w/ additional orange-yellow.

11) Right side of "zero" and left side of bar in dark green.  Previous P35:  both in brown.

Dimensions of '98 note same as previous P35.  Basic brown colour darker on '98 note.  Colours of ECCB Central Bank Building (back) on '98 note more livid than previous P35.

With friendly regards, Herber Stein, 65-32 171 St.
