NEW ZIMBABWE SERIES
Zimbabwe P.NewS 1 ZiG Harare 2024 Local Currency
This is the lowest of 8 new denominations with a
current exchange rate of 1 ZiG = 6 USA Cents.
Until April 30, 2024 the ZiG will only be traded
electronically, then the new banknotes are planned
to be released.
Zimbabwe has made five previous attempts to
establish a stable currency since 2008 and this
one appears to be robust. Currently many foreign
currencies legally circulate along with the Zimdollar or Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS)
dollar and are planned to continue until 2030 in
parallel with the new ZiG.
The ZiG is gold and foreign currency backed, which
the Central Bank defines as a "Structured Local
Currency". Zimbabwe's inflation hit 500 Million
percent in the past and this appears to be a back
to fundamentals approach.
Interesting back design which emphasizes gold
smelting. Also these notes contain a QR code on
the face...perhaps having a Central Bank Digital
crypto Currency function not currently defined.
There may be a future relationship with the
Zimbabwean Digital Gold coins introduced last
year?

BOOM in BENJAMINS |
USA P.549L 100 Dollars L12(SF) Series 2017A
According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF),
the USA $100 bill is now the most popular
banknote, overtaking the $1 bill.
Geopolitical instability could be one reason
behind the surge in $100 bills, according to
Fed economist Ruth Judson. “Overseas demand
for US dollars is likely driven by its status
as a safe asset,” Judson told the Richmond
Fed’s Econ Focus in 2018.
Another possibility is “The underground
economy, the informal economy, the criminal
economy—all of it contributes certainly to the
appeal of large denomination bills.”
The dollar’s role as the dominant
international reserve currency may be the key
factor.

Possible design for new Australia Fiver?
KING CHARLES WILL NOT APPEAR ON THE NEW AUSTRALIA $5
BANKNOTE.
Instead the Central Bank announced that
the First Australians
or Indigenous People will be honoured on the new fiver
which
will be out in a few years, after extensive consultation
with the
First Australians.
The First Australians have been
lobbying for formal recognition
since 1910 and while they have had their images appear on
postage stamps and coins but getting on a $5 banknote
has added significance.
Interesting that evidence of a single human migration out
of
Africa was confirmed that Aboriginal Australians
are the world's
oldest civilization, traced back about 59,000 years ago...
and now they appear again on a banknote.

I recently came across this info on Wikipedia:
Carthage was
purported to have issued
bank notes on parchment or leather before 146 BC. Hence they may
actually be the oldest user of lightweight promissory notes.!
