NEWS

President Hugo Chavez died on March 5, 2013 after a long bout with cancer. He was praised by many world leaders, especially Cuba, China and Iran and he was mourned by his neighboring countries in Latin America.

U.S. President Barack Obama sent his condolences to the people of Venezuela. Chavez was not popular in the USA because of his political rhetoric against the USA and particularly for his insults to former President George W. Bush at the U.N., calling him the devil.

Interim Head of State, Acting President Nicolás MADURO Moros also recently made statements that Chavez cancer was caused by the USA, an obvious political statement in his hopes of gaining the Presidency in the planned elections in 30 days.

In the competing philosophies of world politics, I believe Chavez will be remembered for the coup that brought him to power, his extensive help of the poor of his country while simultaneously mismanaging the tremendous oil resources of Venezuela.

Nicolás MADURO Moros took office as President on 8.3.2013                                                                                 1.2.2014 GSE
