This rare postage stamp depicts the Lady McCloud 100 ton steamer, which was named in honor of the wife of the Gouvernor of Trinidad, Henry George Macleod (Apr 1840 - 1846). Mail was carried at the rate of 5 Cents per letter and it was possible that these stamps were used as small change since low value coins were scarce. |
