Matej Gábris is an outstanding Slovakian graphic artist and banknote designer who has given us some beautiful Essay (fantasy) banknotes with a wide range of both historical and contemporary themes.

This series for Scotland's Shetland Islands honors Lieutenant Commander Leif Andreas Larsen who was the Norwegian leader of the "Shetland Bus" operations in World War II. Larsen became the most highly decorated allied naval officer of the war.

The 'Shetland Bus"' was a clandestine operation of the Norwegian Navy ferrying operatives to and from the Shetland Islands and German occupied Norway. The operation began with fishing boats and later used sub-chasers for transportation.

The complete print run of this series was 700 pieces employing a unique individual numbering system. The banknotes are a personal ESSAY of the designer. The were printed using double sided of offset process and contain a wavy lines watermark. They also have a UV security feature visible under an Ultra Violet light source.                                                                                GSE 2016
