BACKGROUNDER
Watermark varieties are believed to exist for many of the above issues as well as varieties in both thick and thin papers. The differences that have been used above to classify major varieties can be seen with the different designs for the left and right vertical panels as well as a missing accent on REPUBLIQUE found on only one note.

Little information or records have been found that define when these notes were used in circulation but it is believed they circulated from 1827 through 1849, during periods of perpetual government instability and high inflation.
