One of my friends was doing a patrol in
the Sinai desert, driving slowly down a wady (dry creek bed), when he
noticed what looked like a banknote sticking out of the sand. He
stopped and sure enough it was a banknote. Looking around he saw a few
more. Scratching around in the sand with a stick, he found 95 Egyptian
P-19 5-pound banknotes. We surmise there may have originally been
100. He kept the best one and gave me the second choice, which is
depicted here. We have no idea how the notes came to be in the wadi,
but speculate they may have been lost by a Bedowin, perhaps 25 years
before (its pretty dry out there).
