BACKGROUNDER

Hospital ship M.S.Jutlandia that was provided during the Korean War 1950-1953, by Denmark. In 1950 North Korea invaded South Korea. The UN asked for contributions from member states to resist this attack. Denmark proclaimed, and still does, neutrality under humanitarian ideals but did agree to offer a fully outfitted Hospital ship, the Jutlandia. Allied casualities were transferred to this vessel for both surgery and recuperation.

A canteen aboard was used to provide neccessities and luxuries for the wounded.  A series of chits/notes was issued for use by the wounded and recuperating soldiers.    While not an active participant in the Korean War the hospital ship Jutlandia, provided by the Danish Government, was credited with saving many Allied soldiers lives.
