The above Bougainville Kina issues are not legal tender in Papua New Guinea and we consider them to be fantasy issues, and perhaps an illegal scheme, unless data is provided to otherwise classify them.

It has been reported that Noah Musingku said he would use the Bougainville Kina in place of PNG currency in order to pay money owed to investors in his U-Vistract operation.

An email was received from the President of The European Shareholders of Bougainville Copper (ESBC) asking us to place a big warning sign on this site about these issues. See article below for more information.

The Papaa'la Chronicles BLOG describes the Bougainville Kina (BKV) notes as a "Complementary Community Currency", a term well known to numismatics. It also states that they are gold backed, with references to an International Reserve Currency (UVG). We have not attempted to verify this information for accuracy.

We are a numismatic website and have a goal to display all currencies, since collectors seek to collect them. However, in cases where there is sufficient negative press about a particular issue, like the Bougainville Kina, we recommend caution when considering these issues as currency or even as a complementary community currency.

As of 17.9.2014 additional press has appeared about a "Series 2" Bougainville Kina issue. These issues appear to be of a higher quality than the first issues and may use a polymer substrate.
