BACKGROUNDER

Anguilla attained autonomy from Great Britain on 10.2.1976 and a is a member of the Commonwealth of Nations. On 19 December 1980 it was classified as a dependency de jure of the United Kingdom of Great Britain & Northern Ireland.

British Caribbean Territories was a currency union established in 1950 with its name later changed to the East Caribbean States.  The L.1965 issues used an overprint letter in a circle to identify the area of issue. These same identifiers were used in the 1985-87 issues as a serial number suffix.

Anguilla U
Antigua A
Dominica D
Grenada G
Montserrat M
St. Kitts K
St. Lucia L

The ECCA issues from 1993 - 2008 used a bar code scheme to identify areas of issue.
