URUGUAY NEW $10 BANKNOTE

The public will take notice that beginning April 28th, 1999, a new ten (10) Uruguayan Peso note will be placed into circulation. This note is in homage to Dr. Eduardo Acevedo Vazquez. It will keep the features of the "Harmonic Series" banknotes.

FRONT SIDE: effigy of Dr. Eduardo Acevedo

Image of an open book that is coinciding on the front and back.

Vertical and asymmetrical numeration.

Water mark with the image of General Jose Artigas

The letters "BCU" in the existing oval in the upper right-hand corner. They can be observed by changing the inclining angle of the banknote.

Miniprinting of the legend BANCOCENTRALDEURUGUAY located in the upper and center part of the word "Uruguay."

BACK SIDE: Reproduction of the wall of the Facility of Agronomy.

COLOR: multicolored, light blue and pink predominating.

SECURITY THREAD: silver and yellow

The present banknotes of N$10,000 (1984) and $10.- (1995) (plaza of Democracy, Monument to the Flag) will circulate in conjunction with the new banknotes until their retirement is completed.
