In the LANSA Bulletin Number 69 article, published in 2004 we had a request for information regarding a validation "overprint" seen on the back of some of the very interesting Revolutionary Military 5 & 10 Pesos notes issued by the Gobierno Constitucionalista - Territorio de la Baja CFA dated 1914. The inquiry was to discover the complete "legend" on the bottom portion of the overprint. The top portion reads "Ayuntamiento de la Municipalidad". The bottom portion of the validation overprints to which we had access at that time were not entirely "clear".
Several folks sent us information about these overprinted notes, including Arthur Matz of LANSA, and Elmer Powell of LANSA. With the fine additional information from Elmer Powell, we have been able to decipher the entire overprinted validation "seal".
We are now well convinced that the entire "legend" of this overprint used on many of the 1914 Jaha notes is: "Ayuntamiento de la Municipalidad * M San Antonio, B.C."
From research on the history of the Baja during the latter part of the 19th century and the first part of the 20th century we have learned that there were 7 'municipalidades' and one of these was Municipalidad San Antonio.
At this time, with a small population of notes to study, we have developed an estimate that about 30% of these Baja California notes have the overprinted reverse. This estimate of course is subject to having access to additional Baja California 5 and 10 Pesos 1914 notes.
We want to thank everyone who assisted on this project. It has been a fun 'research' project and this is what makes our hobby so very interesting.
