New Note of 1000 Pesos - 26 MAR. 2002
With the purpose of facilitating for the public the convenience of some of their transactions in cash, the Bank of Mexico has decided to put into circulation through the national bank system a new note with the denomination of 1000 Pesos starting from November 15.
It has been observed that the commercial operations in which notes of 500 Pesos and 200 Pesos are used has increased, so the new emission of 1000 Pesos will allow that a portion of these operations can be carried out using a small number of banknotes.
it is important to point out that the current equivalence of a note of 1000 Pesos is approximately 85 U.S. Dollars, very similar to the exchange rate that this denomination had during the decade of the 1960's, when the country had the biggest stability in prices of the 20th century, and when this corresponded to 80 dollars.
The new 1,000 Pesos note has printed on the front the bust of Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, "Father of the Homeland", initiator of the National Independence. It also has a complementary feature with the image of Dolores's bell in the background printed at the center. On the reverse side the main feature is a view of the University of Guanajuato, supplemented with the "Font (Fountain) of Baratillo", which is part of the square of the same name, located in downtown Guanajuato.
The main security devices of the new banknote of 1000 Pesos are indicated below:
A). - Numeral in the upper right corner of the front of the note, which changes color from gold to green with the variation of the observation angle.
B). - Watermark with the image of Miguel Hidalgo y Castilla located on the right side of the front of the note, which is visible to backlighting and accompanied by the signature of this personage, also visible to backlighting.
C). - Embedded thread that crosses the note vertically, and when it is observed in backlighting the text "MIL" (thousand) repeated several times is clearly observed.
D). - Embedded continuous thread that crosses the note vertically and it is very defined, when it is observed by backlighting.
E). - Image located on the left side of the front of the note, which is made up by impressions on both sides of the note. When they are aligned and observed in backlighting they form a perfect register of the number 1000.
