TWENTY & FIFTY PESOS 1999

Posted January, 2000

In the near future 20 and 50 Peso national currency banknotes in a new design will begin to circulate.

The banknotes are of the same size as those in circulation at this time.  They still carry the faces of Major General Calixto Garcia Iñiguez on the 50 and that of the Commander Camilo Cienfuegos on the 20.

As principal security features, both features on the left side a watermark with the effigy of the Heroine Celia Sanchez Manduley and will integrate a mircroprinted security thread from the upper to the lower border and underneath the signature of the President of the Central Bank of Cuba.  In the center of the banknote letters superimposed over the numbers 50 and 20 can be read, according to what we are informed.

Among the identification details on the front the predominance of violet stands out on the 50 peso note and blue on the 20 peso note and the logo of the Central Bank of Cuba as well as the acronym that identifies it.

On the backside the 50 Peso note has an illustration of the Center of Genetric Engineering and Biotechnology, and the 20 peso shows an illustration of Agricultural Development.

It is being made clear to the population and businesses that the 20 and 50 peso notes that are presently circulating will continue to be in force until their total withdrawal from circulation.  They will continue to circulate along with the new issues.
