100 PESOS CUBANOS

The Central Bank of Cuba (BCC) will put into circulation soon a new denomination, of 100 Pesos Cubanos (Cuban Pesos), with the motif of the 50th Anniversary of the Cuban Centeral Bank.

This note will be predominantly magenta in color. On the obverse, the portrait of Carlos Manuel de Cespedes will appear over a security underprint of undulating lines with the text "Patria o Muerte" and "Cuba - Territorio Libre De America". At the center the denomination is shown in letters, "Cien Pesos" (One Hundred Pesos) and under it the denomination as a number, "100" on a variegated cream color. At the top left is the logo of the Central Bank of Cuba (BCC) and under that appears the logo of the commemoration.

The reverse shows as the main vignette the "Jose Marti Antimperialist Tribune" located at Havana City.

Security features are a watermark with the portrait of Celia Sanchez Manduley, a vertical security thread with the legend "Patria o Muerte" on it, and small fibres in blue and red colors visible in natural light, and in yellow visible only under ultraviolet light. Also there is microprinted text on both sides of the note with the continuous legend "banco Central de Cuba 100 Pesos."

I will further comment that this denomination is very odd in the Cuban Socialist era because the last 100 pesos note was issued in 1961, when Ernesto Che Gevarra was the president of Cuban National Bank (CNB); but that note had a very short circulation life, so this new denomination will surprise everybody.

So far the Cuban Central Bank (BCC) authorities have not shown a sample of the note; they have only given the description that I am reporting. You can be sure that when I get my first note of this denomination it will be scanned and sent to you by e-mail.
