NEW BANKNOTE ISSUE

Posted: July, 2001

by Valentin Rendon S.

The Central Bank of Bolivia, through its Director of Monetary Operations, Lic. Julio Loayza Cossio, has officially announced next July they will issue series "F" in the present monetary system.

This new series will basically be similar to the previous ones, but improved by the inclusion of several elements of quanlity and security. The paper will be 100% of recycled cotton, treated with safe chemical agents that will decrease wear in different climates. To the security measures already existing in previous issues, there will be added others such as a thread of special synthetic material that runs across the note and produces a light relief.

The notes will also have minuscule fibers in four colors that will be distributed throughout the note. These and other security elements will be built into the paper, making it difficult to counterfiet.

This new issue will be in denominations of 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 bolivianos, while the note of 5 bolivianos will be replaced by a bemetallic coin, the center of copper and the surrounding border of nickel.
